Vice President, Food & Janitorial Supplies

Vice President, Food & Janitorial Supplies

Equalis Group is one of the fastest growing public-sector cooperative purchasing organizations. We thrive in a culture where employees are engaged and empowered to contribute directly to the success of the Company.

Summary:

The Vice President, Food & Janitorial Supplies is the senior-most leader of Equalis Group’s Food & Janitorial Supplies program and is accountable for the strategic direction, financial performance, and growth of one of Equalis Group’s most strategic categories. This hybrid leadership role brings together procurement, supplier management, analytics, strategic-account growth, and field sales activation under a single team. The VP leads a team of six (two Directors of Procurement, one AVP Strategic Accounts, two Directors of Sales, and one Senior Analyst), owns Equalis Group’s relationships with awarded distributors and key manufacturers, serves as the executive sponsor of Equalis Group’s partnership with Vizient for this category, and represents Equalis externally at industry events, lead-agency forums, and member conferences. The VP works closely with Equalis Group’s Executive VP of Sales/Strategy, Procurement & Operations leadership, Marketing, Member Engagement, and Finance, and reports to a senior member of Equalis Group’s executive team. Travel expectations are 30–50%.

Location:

This is a virtual/remote role based anywhere in the United States, consistent with Equalis Group’s existing virtual sales model. The role requires travel up to 50%, primarily to the assigned distributor partner’s corporate offices, distribution centers, regional sales meetings, member sites, and key industry events.

Why Join Equalis Group:

This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a category from the ground up inside one of the fastest growing public-sector cooperatives in the country. The Food & Janitorial Supplies category sits at the intersection of three powerful go-to-market mechanisms, traditional lead agency contracts, the newly added Vizient GPO partnership, and USDA-regulated K-12 procurement-agent work. The VP will shape how Equalis Group engages each of them. If you are a distributor sales leader, GPO/cooperative relationship manager, or foodservice executive looking to build something durable with a high-performing, mission-driven team, this is your seat.

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Program Leadership & Team Development:
    • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of six direct reports spanning procurement, sales (AVP and Sales Directors), and analytics.
    • Set annual goals, performance metrics, and KPI’s for the team; conduct regular one-on-ones, business reviews, and talent-development planning.
    • Recruit, onboard, and retain top talent as the team scales; build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and member-first thinking.
    • Own the category P&L, including admin-fee revenue, contract growth, member adoption, strategic-account growth, and operating budget.

  • Strategy & Market Expansion:
    • Define and execute the multi-year strategy for the Food & Janitorial Supplies category across K-12, higher education, prisons/jails, hospitality, and corporate end markets.
    • Identify white-space opportunities, new contract categories, and adjacent service offerings.
    • Partner with Equalis Group’s Marketing and Member Engagement teams to drive category awareness, lead generation, and campaign execution.

  • Distributor & Manufacturer Relationship Management:
    • Own executive-level relationships with all awarded distributor partners and key manufacturer partners.
    • Conduct quarterly business reviews with distributor and manufacturer leadership.
    • Resolve escalations, negotiate program enhancements, and drive joint go-to-market plans.

  • Lead Agency, Vizient & Strategic-Account Stewardship:
    • Serve as the executive sponsor of Equalis Group’s partnership with Vizient for this category, ensuring alignment on competitive positioning, pricing strategy, and joint solicitation responses.
    • Own executive relationships with K-12 and non-K-12 lead agencies that release Equalis-supported solicitations in this category.
    • Provide executive sponsorship for the AVP, Strategic Accounts on the largest procurement-agent and enterprise customer relationships.
    • Ensure procurement-agent engagements meet USDA 7 CFR 210.21 and 2 CFR 200.317–.327 compliance expectations.

  • Cross-Functional & Executive Engagement:
    • Partner with Equalis Group’s Sales Operations & Finance, Marketing, Operations & Technology, and regional sales teams to align category execution with enterprise priorities.
    • Provide regular executive reporting on category performance, pipeline, and risk.
    • Represent Equalis Group at industry events including SNA, NAEP, NIGP, ISSA, and key distributor/manufacturer national sales meetings.

 Job Qualifications, Experience and Requirements:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in foodservice and/or janitorial distribution, GPO/cooperative purchasing, or manufacturer national-account leadership.
  • Demonstrated success managing a GPO or cooperative relationship from a distributor seat, or actively selling into one — ideally as a corporate-account or national-account leader at a broadline foodservice or jan/san distributor.
  • Strong negotiation, financial-acumen, and contract-management skills; comfort with admin-fee economics and rebate/deviation pricing structures.
  • Excellent executive presence, written and verbal communication skills, and ability to influence at the C-suite level both internally and externally.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic; comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • BA/BS degree preferred; MBA or relevant graduate degree a plus.
  • Travel expectations of 30–50%.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary commensurate with relevant experience
  • Performance-based incentive plan
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance benefits
  • Personal Time Off (PTO) policy for vacation and sick days
  • 401K retirement plan with defined Company match
